Hi, I'm new on here and am in need of some advice on writing to Sony DVD+R discs using my Inspiron 530. When I insert a Sony DVD+R disc and try and burn to it, I get the message 'Windows can't write to the disc you inserted.
Please insert a writable disc into drive G'. I'm confused because I've previously had no problems in the past, but this is a new pack of DVDs. Unfortunately, I can't remember the brand of discs I've previously been successful with. I guess it wasn't Sony ( According to the properties on the DVD RW Drive, it says it's a 'PBDS DVD+-RW DH-16W1S ATA Device'. The computer's using Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS. Any advice would be very much appreciated, before I end up binning the whole pack of DVDs.
In the past I've just highlighted the folders and used the red/silver disc 'Burn' icon towards the top of the Windows Explorer screen. Not sure what software you call this?
However, since you replied (thank you by the way) I've tried some software that's been on my machine for a while called Imgburn and that has successfully written the folders to the Sony DVD and I now have my photos backed up. Strange that I can no longer use the aforementionned 'Burn' icon though. I guess the discs or disc drive weren't to blame afterall. Maybe it's a software hiccup or more likely my own ineptitude. Either way, problem solved and photos now backed up to DVD. Thanks again IEEE488 for taking the time to respond.
